Client Uploads

This highly requested feature allows your clients to upload their tax returns directly to Holistiplan.

We know that getting your clients to share their tax returns can be challenging sometimes. You can now share a link that allows clients to upload their tax returns to Holistiplan!

To enable this feature, Firm Admins can navigate to Settings > Security Settings, and toggle on the "Allow Client Upload Links" toggle under Firm Preferences as seen below.


Note: Clients will be prompted to agree to Holistiplan's Terms and Conditions when they submit a return via the client upload links. You can find those Terms and Conditions here.


Once enabled, you can navigate to any client household and click on the the "Create Client Upload Link" shown circled below.

Clicking the button above will allow you to create a unique link for any client listed in the client household for any specific tax year supported within Holistiplan. In the example below, we are creating a client upload link for Peter Professor for the 2023 tax return.



Created links will show up in the "Client Upload Links" section as seen below. Note that the generated client upload link expires after 21 days for security purposes. Until the client uploads the requested return, the "Upload Status" will look like the example below.




You then will share this one-use link with your client which will allow them to upload their return. When they visit the shared link, the clients will arrive at a page that looks like the example below. They can then drag and drop their PDF or click the "Send to Advisor" link to select a file to upload.

Please note that similar to advisor-uploaded returns, the return will need to be in a single PDF, that is under our 20MB size limit, and includes the necessary forms and schedules needed to process the submitted return. Feel free to share these linked size limit and forms articles with your clients if you wish.


Once the return has been uploaded, your clients will receive the message below.


You as the advisor will not receive an email that the client has uploaded the return, but the "Client Upload Links" section will indicate a successful upload as shown circled below. Once the client uploads the requested return, Holistiplan will process the return through our OCR (Optical Character Recognition) software, and if needed, through a manual review process from one of our support specialists.

When processing of the return is complete, the return will show up in the "Tax Returns" section with the "Client Upload" as the source of the return as shown outlined above. You as the advisor will receive the emails from Holistiplan you have received in the past, noting when the return has been successfully processed, or if not, the reason the return upload failed.

 

If your firm has enabled the auto-delete feature, please note Holistiplan will continue to delete the PDF of those client-uploaded returns as well. However, to allow you as the advisor to be able to download the return for your files, the PDF of the return for a client-uploaded return will not be deleted until five (5) days after it is uploaded.


To download a tax return that has been uploaded by your client, click on the "View Return" link within the "Tax Returns" section of your client's household, which will open up the Document View page, showing the tax return PDF on the left, and Holistiplan's data entry panel on the right. You can then click the download button circled below to save a copy of the tax return PDF to your computer for your firm's files.
