Electric Vehicle (EV) Tax Credit
While the EV credit has been fully suspended starting in 2026, users can still model this credit in Scenario Analysis in prior years.
The One Big Beautiful Bill Act suspended the eligibility for the Electric Vehicle credit starting on September 30, 2025. Meaning, any vehicles purchased after that date are not eligible for the credit. Vehicles purchased before that date are eligible for the credit for 2025 tax returns though. Read more here.
For 2025 scenarios and older, the EV credit can be found within the Other Nonrefundable Tax Credits Worksheet. Navigate to the Nonrefundable Tax Credits section of Scenario Analysis, then click the pencil icon to access the worksheet.
The Other Nonrefundable Tax Credits Worksheet allows users to enter in any nonrefundable credits not listed in the broader Nonrefundable Tax Credits section, including the credit for EVs. A credit for a new vehicle purchased is included in Electric Vehicle Credit and a credit for a used vehicle purchased is included in Previously Owned Clean Vehicles.
The amount of the EV credit varies depending on when the vehicle was purchased as well as the condition when purchased (new or used). Search for a client's vehicle here to see how much of an EV credit they may be eligible for. Note that unused credits do not carry forward to future years.
