Holistiplan AI Assistant (Beta)
The Holistiplan AI Assistant is a beta feature that helps advisors understand information in Holistiplan and work with the household, Tax Report, and planning tools they’re already using. The AI Assistant opens in a side panel where advisors can ask questions about the information on their screen. In supported areas, it can also suggest changes to planning scenarios for the advisor to review and apply.
Important: The AI Assistant can make mistakes when interpreting information or suggesting planning changes. Always verify its responses and review proposed changes before applying them to a planning scenario or sharing recommendations with a client.
A firm admin must enable the AI Assistant before users at the firm can access it.
- Navigate to Settings > Features & Tools > General.
- Locate the AI Assistant feature.
- Select the toggle to enable the feature.
- Review the confirmation message: Enable the Holistiplan AI Assistant (Beta) for your firm?
- Select Enable to confirm.
By enabling the feature, the firm agrees that its use is covered by the Holistiplan Terms and Conditions and Privacy Policy. Each user must also review and accept the agreement before using the AI Assistant for the first time.
Accept the user agreementThe first time a user opens the AI Assistant, they will be prompted to review and accept the agreement before starting a conversation.
- Open the AI Assistant.
- Review the agreement.
- Select I understand and agree.
- Select Submit.
After accepting the agreement, the user can begin chatting with the AI Assistant.
Open the AI AssistantLook for the puffin icon to access the AI Assistant.
- From the top navigation: Select the puffin icon on the right side of the top bar, next to Settings.
- From supported pages: Select the puffin icon displayed alongside content in supported areas, such as Tax Report, Scenario Analysis, Roth Projection, Range Calc, and Tax Explainer.
The AI Assistant opens in a side panel, allowing users to ask questions without leaving the page they are working on. Each user's conversations are personal to that user.
The AI Assistant is designed to assist with the following areas of Holistiplan:
|
Area |
What you can ask the AI Assistant to do |
|
Household |
Review client information, tax returns on file, observations, state tax information, notes, documents, and saved scenarios. Ask for tax estimates for a specific year or start a new Scenario Analysis. |
|
Tax Report |
Ask questions about the tax return or specific sections of the report. |
|
Tax Explainer |
Ask questions about the tax return being explained. |
|
Range Calc |
Ask questions about the chart and the assumptions or settings used. |
|
Scenario Analysis |
Create, copy, edit, or remove columns; apply tax strategies; run Roth conversion or S-corp conversion analyses; build multi-year scenarios, including charitable giving; and review scenarios for potential issues. |
|
Roth Projection |
Interpret charts, adjust assumptions or income patterns, explore what-if scenarios, compare tax brackets, and evaluate bracket-filling strategies. |
|
Cash Flow |
Ask questions about the Cash Flow report displayed on screen. |
The AI Assistant may also search Holistiplan Help Center content and tax reference materials to help answer questions.
Reviewing and applying changes
In Scenario Analysis and Roth Projection, proposed changes appear on a confirmation card.
Changes are not applied until users review and confirm them.
After applying a change, users can undo changes made by the AI Assistant during that conversation using the undo option in the chat or the Undo action on the applicable message.
On pages that are not currently supported, users may still be able to open the AI Assistant panel, but it will not provide page-specific assistance.
Examples of how to use the AI AssistantThe AI Assistant can help users:
- Get help using Holistiplan: Ask general questions about how to use Holistiplan, navigate features, or complete tasks. The AI Assistant can reference Holistiplan Help Center articles to help answer questions.
- Understand a number, chart, or observation displayed on the screen.
- Review information from a household's latest tax return.
- Estimate a household's taxes for the current year or a specified future year.
- Set up or modify a planning scenario and review the proposed changes before applying them.
- Review a scenario for potential errors or inconsistencies.
- Explore Roth conversion strategies, IRMAA considerations, and tax bracket questions within Scenario Analysis or Roth Projection.
The AI Assistant is intended to support your planning workflow, not replace your professional judgment. Verify its responses against the underlying tax return, applicable tax rules, and the client's overall financial situation before using the information.
Disable the AI AssistantA firm admin can disable the AI Assistant for the entire firm, or an admin can remove access for an individual user through User Permissions.
Disable for the entire firm
- Navigate to Firm Admin > Features > General.
- Locate AI Assistant.
- Turn the feature off.
The AI Assistant will no longer be available to users at the firm. Disabling the feature does not require users to accept the enablement agreement again if the feature is subsequently re-enabled.
There is no separate setting within the AI Assistant panel to disable access for an individual user.
Important considerationsKeep the following limitations in mind when using the AI Assistant:
- Beta feature: The AI Assistant is in public beta, and responses may be inaccurate or incomplete.
- Review responses: Advisors are responsible for reviewing the AI Assistant's output before relying on it or sharing it with clients.
- Confirm proposed changes: Changes suggested in Scenario Analysis and Roth Projection are not applied until the advisor confirms them.
- Usage limits: Heavy usage may trigger a daily limit. If this occurs, the panel will indicate when the AI Assistant will be available again.
- Existing permissions apply: The AI Assistant cannot access households or features that the user is not otherwise authorized to access.

Question |
Answer |
|
Do you train AI models on our data or our clients’ data? |
No. Holistiplan does not train, fine-tune, or customize any model on customer data, and neither the model providers nor AWS train on it. |
|
Is our data shared with the model provider? |
No. Models are accessed through Amazon Bedrock within the US AWS infrastructure, and in no case are accessed via the model providers’ public endpoints. AWS commits contractually that inputs and outputs are not shared with the model provider. |
|
Is our data retained by the AI service? |
No. Under the Bedrock configuration we use, prompts and responses are not stored by the inference service once the request completes. What Holistiplan retains, it retains in its own systems (§4). |
|
Where is the data processed? |
Within Amazon Web Services, in United States regions only. |
|
Does data leave the United States? |
No. |
|
Can we turn AI features off? |
Yes. The covered features are permission-gated and can be withheld per user or left off for the firm entirely. |
|
Who is responsible for reviewing AI output before it reaches a client? |
The advisor. AI output in Holistiplan is a draft for a professional to review, correct, and approve. |
