When creating a new household, although not required, it is important to include a birthdate as these can drive things like the age 65+ additional standard deduction amount, age milestones, age reminders, etc.
In order to create a new household, you will want to navigate to the "Household" tab. Once there, you can click the teal "Add Household" button and this will open the Household data entry screen. Here, you will enter some general information about the household, as well as the taxpayer(s) within the household.
The only required field (by default) in the General section is the Unit, which will only apply to those firms using Units. Firm Admins can make other fields required by navigating to Settings/Customization.
For clients, the only required fields are the first and last name of the primary taxpayer; however, as a best practice, we encourage users to enter birth dates as well to drive those age-related milestones, age reminders, the age 65+ additional standard deduction amount, etc..
To add a second client, click the "Add a Client (Optional)" link.
Note that this is the point in time where you would want to indicate if a household will be labeled a "private" household, meaning that it is visible only to the user and the Firm Admin. To do this, click the "Need a private household?" link.
Please note, the household data entry screen will look slightly different if creating a household during the return upload process, as pictured below:
