Absolutely, you can! We also call out if a return is a draft instead of a completed, filed return.
While you are always able to upload multiple versions of a tax return, having multiple returns in a household makes it hard to distinguish which are drafts and which is the final return. You can designate a return as a draft when you upload the return. Here's how.
Note: Draft returns are supported once the return year is supported within Holistiplan. Generally, the IRS releases tax forms for the current tax year in November/December, and Holistiplan supports those returns at or about the time filing season officially starts in January.
Draft returns, pro formas, or projections needed before that tax year being supported within Holistiplan can be done in Scenario Analysis.
When you upload a return, you will see the option to upload as a draft in the upload modal.
Check the box outlined above to upload a return as a draft. Note that draft returns only show up in the individual client households.
Only final returns show up in the global households screen, or the Reporting - Tax, Tax Return Staging, or Schedule B Summary reporting screens in Tools & Resources, to avoid using draft returns that haven't been finalized for reporting purposes.
Once the return has been uploaded and successfully processed through Holistiplan's OCR (Optical Character Recognition) software and a manual review, if necessary, the draft return will show up in the "Tax Returns" section of your client's household.
You will see a "Draft" tag has been applied to this return to indicate that this 2024 return is a draft, and not a filed tax return.
When the final return is filed, you may keep the draft return uploaded, or delete the draft return, whichever you prefer. A draft return can also be added to Scenario Analysis and compared to the final return or any projections you may have created for that tax year, using our comparison tool, to note any differences.
