Enabling and Accessing the Roth Projection Tool
Illustrate the impact of multi-year Roth conversions with our Roth Projection Tool.
Holistiplan's Roth Projection tool allows users to model multiple years of Roth conversions and illustrate the long-term financial impact of the conversions on portfolio growth, lifetime taxes, and Medicare surcharges. Additionally, users are able to visualize their clients' tax brackets over the course of the projection, allowing them to pinpoint the best years and optimal amounts for conversions.
Note: Roth Projection is different than the Roth Explainer, which is a feature accessible within Scenario Analysis that illustrates the impact of a Roth conversion in a single year and pulls income and tax details from the underlying scenario.
Enabling and Accessing the Tool
The Roth Projection Tool is available to Premium Plan subscribers. Firm Admins can enable this feature for their firms by navigating to Settings > Features & Tools > Tax and toggling on the "Allow Roth Projections" in the Permissions section.
Creating the Roth Projection
Within an individual client household, access the Roth Projections section by navigating to Tax > Roth Projections on the left-hand panel. Then click the "Create Roth Projection" button circled below to create a new Roth Projection.

In the subsequent window, title the projection and indicate filing status, start year, assign client(s) as Tax Payer 1 and Tax Payer 2, and indicate if they are eligible for the additional standard deduction for blind taxpayers, as seen below. Then click the "Create Roth Projection" button.
The projection is now accessible in the Roth Projections section.

Users can re-title the projection by clicking the pencil icon next to the name of the projection. To copy or delete the scenario, click the three dots in the Actions column and select the relevant option.

To begin building a projection, click on the projection title in the Name column.
To learn more about the various inputs necessary to build a projection, please see Building the Roth Projection Framework.
Alternatively, users who have already built a projection may choose to skip to Adding Roth Projections and Interpreting the Results.
