Tax Return Staging

Introducing our new Tax Return Staging screen, which will help you keep track of which returns you have received from your clients and which ones remain outstanding.

To access the Tax Return Staging Screen, navigate to Tools & Resources > Tax Return Staging as seen below.

Once in the Tax Return Staging screen, you can see the status of each client household's return, on a tax year basis. You can change the tax year by clicking on the drop-down box outlined in blue below. You will also see a running total for 2022 returns across all the available statuses outlined in teal below. To navigate between tax years, select the appropriate tax year from the drop-down box outlined in blue below.



The various statuses for returns include:

  • No Return - No return on file, and needs to be requested
  • Return Requested - Return has been requested, but not yet received
  • Processing - Return has been uploaded, and Holistiplan is processing uploaded return
  • Uploaded - Return has been successfully uploaded, but not yet reviewed by advisor.
  • In Review - Return and Tax Report currently being reviewed by advisor
  • Completed - Return has been received, uploaded, and reviewed by advisor
  • Opted Out - Client has opted out of sending their return to advisor
  • Client Extended - Client has filed for extension of deadline to file from April 15 to October 15

Within each tax year's staging screen, you can manually adjust the status of the various returns in the following ways. Returns that have been successfully uploaded present you with the options circled in blue below. You can click the icons to access the Tax Report, Scenario Analysis, and for Premium subscribers, the Tax Explainer. You can also click on the buttons to the right of the icons to access other return features as well.

The "Create Upload Link" outlined in green allows you to create a link for the client to upload their return directly to Holistiplan. You can change the status of multiple returns by checking on the appropriate returns as seen outlined in yellow, and then select a status from the "Actions" box also outlined in yellow to take the same action on all the checked returns. 

You can also upload a return directly from this staging screen by clicking on the three dots outlined in green and selecting the "Upload Return" option there.




The results of the Tax Return Staging screen can be filtered by any of the column headings to sort tax returns by Review Status, Household, Advisor, Last Action, Links, or Next Action. To filter the results, simply click on the column heading.
